August 25, 2014, New Moon in Virgo – “A Fresh Start and Self-Determination”

in Virgo.  ( You may have felt that ol’  dark of the Moon last night - I did. See blog:

 “I Feel a Dark Moon Rising” )  New Moons establish a new tempo for the lunar cycle ahead. They provide a fresh start and this one says clear the clutter.  New Moon in Virgo gives us an opportunity to sort out what serves us in life, to cast off what doesn’t, and to put our remaining resources to work for us. Virgo Moons move us forward because they like practical application and routines becomes our happy place.

The Moon represents the emotional component in our lives and Virgo does a nice job of balancing that energy with analytical thinking because Virgo thinks through feelings. It analyses events and people, particularly now while Mars is conjunct (same place, same time) with Saturn in Scorpio. Conjunctions are about new planetary cycles and this one works well with New Moon in Virgo. Saturn in Scorpio analyses people, then runs a mental checklist to determine if they fit in the resource, or the recycle category.  The decision is not arbitrary. Saturn in Scorpio is also insightful and where Mars in Scorpio is a goal-driven warrior style of energy, Saturn in Scorpio in more circumspect.

This New Moon in Virgo is an excellent time to start a new project, whether it’s work related, or simply something creative and fun.  Neptune opposes our Virgo Moon and softens Virgo’s obsession with nit-picky details and perfection.  Neptune’s dreamy influence also eases the Virgo Moon’s tendency towards fretting.  

This New Moon directs us to set things in motion.  It’s a great kickstart as we wrap up the summer and prepare to return to our more formal autumn schedules.  Think about what serves you, what you wish to take with you on the next leg of this year’s journey, and what you would be wise to leave behind.

January 30, 2014, New Moon in Aquarius - Merging Creativity and Individualism

On January 30th, at 1:39 P.M., PST, we have our second New Moon of the month occurring in 10 degrees, 55 minutes of Aquarius, Water Bearer.  The other super cool thing about this New Moon is that it’s also a Super Moon.  You may recall that Super Moon is a somewhat freshly coined term referring to a moon that presents at 90% perigee (the lunar position closest to us).  Five Moons in 2014 carry the designation of Super Moon.  January’s New Moon in Capricorn was the first, and the second largest, January 30th’s will be the three largest.  The other epic perigee months this year are July, August and September.

The lunar influences are much stronger when the Moon is at perigee. Tides react, but so does the human body because, as adults, we are composed of between fifty-five and sixty-five percent water.  You’ll definitely feel the pull from this New Moon.  Just be careful if it tells you to swim up stream to spawn.  Cut yourself a little extra slack on the 28th and 29th.  This is time for the Dark of the Moon and if we have a Super New Moon, it only stands to reason that we can experience a Super Dark of the Moon that leaves us feeling unsettled, or carrying some free floating anxiety.  These feelings are a normal part of the New Moon reboot process. Honor them with your favorite flavor of Ben and Jerry’s® ice cream and a movie night.

If not, just wait until our New Moon in Aquarius gets under way.  New moons set a new emotional tempo for the coming lunar cycle.  They are also a time to take stock and change it up if anything needs changing up.  New Moon in Aquarius celebrates the individual in all of us and January’s second New Moon joins with this month’s cardinal energy to tell us that as individuals, we get to make a few of our own rules along the way.  Think James T. Kirk, reprograming the computer for the Kobayashi Maru.

on other people’s good opinion of you, their advice, or their control over you.  This New Moon is about detaching from people and situations that trap us. Aquarius demands extra freedom and a respite from strong emotion during this New Moon, so be respectful of boundaries, yours and other people’s.  Our rewards for successfully harnessing the super energy of the 30th will be new-found idealism, enhanced intuition and creativity.  On the darker side, if you ignore Aquarius’ positive message, you’re apt to become dogmatic in your thinking, touchy and more blunt than normal, particularly if you have Moon in Aquarius in your birth chart.  

This New Moon is an excellent time is reset your goals and make adjustments to them.  Remember that Venus goes direct on the 31st and Mercury turns retrograde February 6th.  Have a great New Moon!

I Feel A Dark Moon Rising - Meditation With the High Priestess

Wasn't it bad enough to coping with Mercury Retrograde this month?  Now we have to endure (cue the organ music please) the dark of the moon.  Today I received several emails and calls from friends and clients who confided that they were having an 'off' day.  Some flat out said they felt weird.  Considering it's three days before the new moon, I'd say that's fairly typical.

What exactly is a dark moon and what good is it?  Glad you asked.  From new moon to full moon we say the moon is waxing and from full moon to new moon it's waning.  As the moon turns in orbit, its illuminated surface turns to directly face us (waxing to full) and as it completes its rotation the unlit side reappears and the lighted portion disappears (waning to dark) once more.  The last portion of the waning crescent moon disappears completely to the naked eye about three days before the new moon.  This month, Saturday, April 21st marks the start of a new lunar cycle, so for 18th, 19th and 20th we're in the dark, so to speak.

more prone to retreat from friends and family and do a little soul searching.  That's a good thing too, because we need a chance to center ourselves for the manifestation opportunities that come during the waxing moon.  The dark moon can effect everyone differently on different months.  Some months pass and you wonder what all the fuss was about.  Other times you will feel like your skin is too tight and your aura is sore to the touch.  Whatever happens, honor your feelings.  That's not giving you permission to be rude, mind you, but a little retreat is good for the soul.

In the tarot deck, The High Priestess represents unconscious thought and intuition.  Where The Magician's colors are bright under the direct light of the sun, hers are more subdued by the indirect light of the moon.  She sits quietly in her chamber in meditation and contemplation, yet it's during the dark of the moon that she makes her strongest connection to her psychic gifts.  Her example can guide us on the moonless nights.  When you feel edgy and restless don't seek to escape, go inside yourself.  You are after all, your own best friend.
