Full Wolf Moon in Cancer January 4, 2015 – "Bark at the Moon"

#7, The Chariot from Corrine Kenner
and John J. Blumen's stellar deck,
"The Wizard's Tarot"©
We get a 'twofer' on January 4th. Not only does Mercury move into Aquarius that day, but our Full Wolf Moon arrives at 8:53 p.m. PST.  This month's Full Moon occurs in 14 degrees and thirty-one minutes of Cancer. Lady Moon rules the sign of the Crab and so we say the Moon is exalted when she resides in this sign.  It's a little more complicated this month, however. In this case her bark is equal to her bite. While we normally look forward to a powerful Moon in Cancer for manifesting our goals there are some additional factors adding riptides to January's Full Moon.

Cancer is a cardinal sign, meaning that it is first sign of a given season. Cardinal energy acts as an instigator. It’s restless and come Full Moon time, perhaps a little edgy. Properly channeled, this energy not only motivates you, but  lifts you up and over the obstacles in your path.  Aptly, tarot's card for the sign of Cancer the Crab is #7, The Chariot – reaching your goals, focusing your intent and knowing who you are. Also remember that Cancer is a water sign and like all water signs, carries a deep, emotional subtext.

Home, hearth and foundations are what Cancer the Crab is

all about.  Full Moons are about emotions and culmination. Our Full Wolf Moon in Cancer asks us to consider the nurturing strength of our families and close friends.  It suggests that we draw their support as a foundation for refining our goals. Ask yourself who supports you on your path.  Are their people in your life who don't support your aspirations? If not, get new ones.
Seriously.  This is your life. You can live it to please yourself, or live it by other people's standards and end up pleasing no one. This Full Moon allow yourself time to enjoy the comfort and security of your own home while you reflect on the direction you want for your life.  Ground yourself and get a sense of where you belong.

The Initiate, or The Fool from
"Wizard's Tarot"© by Corrine
Kenner and John J. Blumen
This Full Moon in Cancer forms a T- square with Uranus in Aires and Pluto in Capricorn, thereby activating that harbinger of sweeping change, the Uranus/Pluto square.  The South Node is also square with Uranus and the whole mess forms a Grand Cross. Ouch! Emotions run high and it's easy to feel anxious and lack certainty.  Spend extra time grounding yourself through your favorite methods. Also – and this is important – be conscious of what emotional baggage belongs to you and what doesn’t. Remember that it's not your job to be anyone's emotional bellboy.  Don't carry anyone else's baggage but your own.  When conflicts occur, try to respond thoughtfully rather than react to fiery words.

The tarot cards to watch for this Full Moon period are:

The Moon    –    #2, The High Priestess

Cancer        –    #7, The Chariot

Uranus        –    The Fool

Aires           –    #4, The Emperor

Pluto           –    #13, Death, or Transformation

Capricorn    –    #15, The Devil

Libra           –    #11, Justice

There's still lots of good energy in this Full Moon, though it is very intense.  Ease yourself into it and go with the flow.

Full Pink Moon in Libra, April 15th, 2014 – “Blood on the Moon, or Miss Scarlet in the Conservatory With A Candlestick”

Blood on the Moon.  Again. Predictions about this month’s Full Moon with eclipse vary from multiple natural disasters to a full-blown apocalypse.  If any of you saw the 2011 movie, “Red Riding Hood,” you know that catastrophic events are supposed to occur when the Moon turns red.  Must be – I mean, did anyone else read the reviews for that movie? Talk about a career killer. There’s no doubt this is a powerful, yet touchy Full Moon cycle coming up – not going to lie about that. However, the edginess we’ll feel during the eclipse is more likely to have us seeing red rather than foretelling certain doom.

The Full Pink Moon occurs at 12:42 a.m., PDT on April 15th, in twenty-six degrees of the sign, Libra. Lunar eclipses occur when the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow.  When this happens, the Sun’s light disburses through the Earth’s atmosphere before reaching the Moon. The higher spectrum lights, such as violet, blue and green fade out and the colors left are orange and red. This is the same effect that gives us big, orange Harvest Moons and pearly, pink Moons during moonrise. There’s no way to actually determine how red the eclipsing Moon will get. It could be anything from a bashful blush to a deep crimson. In either case, the effect only lasts a few minutes, so watch closely. The eclipse begins at 10:58 p.m. on April 14th and reaches its climax at 1:07 a.m. on the 15th.

Even the most upbeat astrologers suggest that we pay close
attention to the world around us during this volatile month.  On the outset, our Full Pink Moon in Libra is a partnership moon filled with charm and social grace. There’s a naturally empathic element that comes with Libra and this instinctual connection with people lends itself to greater success in relationships. In our personal lives, Libra likes close, balanced partnerships where everybody wins. Expect a boost to your people skills during this Full Moon cycle. However, this Full Moon can also make you feel needy, or as if your partner is sucking all the air out of the room. Relax. It’s a temporary effect brought on by the energetic ebb and flow of Lady Moon.

Eclipses act as an energy reboots for the entire planet, setting the tone of our planetary energy field for the next six months. During the eclipse cycle you frequently feel charges of energy coursing through you, almost more than you can handle. This effect is most intense two days prior to the eclipse and for the three days following it. Channel these high voltage surges into productive, positive actions. Focus on releasing any feelings of pressure that have built up in you this month.  Remember your positive mantra.  If you don’t have one, write one.  You are unique, you are enough and you are love. Pull in and use the energy from the stars of fortune and glory, Arcturus and Spica.  These guys are contributing their energy patterns to the lunar eclipse mix.  Arcturus is the stronger influence, combining good fortune with a powerful need for justice.  Use directed, conscious thought to set positive intentions (#1, The Magician) Again, stay grounded and don’t let chips form on your shoulders because someone will knock them off.

While a Full Moon lunar eclipse is already a powerful
Typical Grand Cross configuration
energetic force, this particular eclipse also heralds the exact squaring of that rare astrological event that’s been hovering over us, the Cardinal Grand Cross.  Remember that a Grand Cross forms when two sets of planets, in opposition (at an aspect of 180 degrees to one another) form two squares (aspects of ninety degrees).  ( See blog : "Cardinal Grand Cross"  )The planets involved in this Cardinal Grand Cross are: Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto.  The word, ‘cardinal’ simply refers to the type of signs each of these planets currently occupies, or in this case, Libra, Cancer, Aires and Capricorn, respectively. Cardinal signs are the signs at the beginning of each season.

"Osho Zen Tarot"© reminds us to seek
the silence with ourselves to achieve balance
Cardinal Grand Crosses carry very unsettled and challenging energy.  Uranus and Pluto want to sweep all the chess pieces off the board, even if they create wreckage along the way.  Jupiter in Cancer wants to help you rebuild with glorious results, while Mars in Libra wants to charm people into his way of thinking – the quintessential smooth operator. This is great energy, however, don’t hang onto things that no longer serve you, because this energy can metaphorically pull your arms from their sockets if you do. Also, watch out for Jupiter in Cancer’s expansion giving you too much of a good thing while Mars puts those he can’t sway to the sword.

As with any astrological patterns there are highs and lows. You simply need to make adjustments for working with this month’s power flow. Proceed mindfully, stay grounded and you will be brilliant.

“Double Eclipse With A Grand Cross Chaser” – Astrological Trends for April 2014

The cosmic fuse sparked to life with a New Moon in Aires last
In Kris Waldherr's remarkable archetype
tarot deck, "The Goddess Tarot"©,
Estsanatlehi represents the Empress,
Venus' card.
week making many of us view April with equal parts excitement and trepidation.  That’s understandable.  April carries lots of complex, volatile energy and there’s been a considerable amount of speculation by astrologers about what two, count ‘em, two eclipses and a Cardinal Grand Cross involving the notorious Uranus/Pluto square signifies.  Let’s start by looking at some of the companion pieces for this month’s astrological profile.

Venus takes us on a sentimental journey when she moves into Pisces on April 5th.  The sign of the fish has us using more of our intuition and ability to empathize in our relationships.  We are more imaginative and creative in how we express our affections for others and we also crave their affection in return.  Venus in Pisces is not always steadfast, however.  There’s a degree of insecurity that accompanies the goddess of love in Pisces and this can make us a little fickle after our initial burst of attraction to someone new.  Pisces also woos our wallet and can encourage us to spend a little too freely for those we care about, so double think those expenditures.

On April 7th Mercury visits Aires and will remain there until

The Magician is tarot's card for Mercury
April 23rd.  This is great energy.  Mercury in Aires carries an aggressively brilliant intelligence filled with wit and original thinking.  Mercury brings mental flexibility and the capacity to make lightening-quick responses.  Communications, both written and spoken, will be highly effective and when we combine the power of this transit with a carefully laid out strategy we will be incredibly successful.  You may have caught the caveat it that last sentence, but let me point it out once more for the kids in the back.  Use foresight and planning during this transit because Mercury in Aires, while filled with mental acuity, wants to leap before looking. Impulse control here, folks.

#20, Judgement is the card for Pluto
from Waldherr's "The Goddess Tarot"©
Pluto turns retrograde on April 14th, one day before our Full Moon in Libra and our first eclipse of the month.  Pluto is thought provoking when direct, but during retrograde that dialogue focuses on inner beliefs. “Who am I?” “Am I using my life to its fullest potential?” “Am I part of the greater good, or am I stuck on the couch watching reruns of “Amish Mafia” and “Honey Boo-Boo?”  Yup, Pluto retrograde asks the tough questions, but it also works well with Mercury in Aires.  Expect to receive powerful, sudden insights into your life and help make some terrific resolutions (‘r’ word ) for moving your life forward.

Speaking of power, the Full Moon in Libra with accompanying full lunar eclipse is an energetic Super Moon.  Don’t take this one lightly. There’s lots of great stuff coming with this Full Moon, but it’s also important to do into the period from April 12th to April 18th very balanced.  Eat a healthy, balanced diet, get extra rest, exercise and of course, meditate.  This is good advise any time, but it is essential here if you want to effectively work with the lunar energy flow.  Eclipses are planetary reboots and right on the heels of this eclipse we go straight into a Cardinal Grand Cross (see blogs: "New Moon in Libra" and "January 2014" ) with a highly active Uranus/Pluto square.  Remember in the movie “Jurassic Park” when they shut down the electrical grid to reboot the computer systems?  Well, we’ve got to keep an eye on that velociraptor compound.  Ground yourself, keep the space around you energetically clear and make your home a sanctuary from other people’s chaos.

I’ll have more later on the Full Moon in Libra eclipse, the

New Moon In Aries, March 30, 2014 - “The Fuse is Lit”

Are you feeling a little restless? Do you have the sense that

you're waiting for something momentous to happen although you’re not sure what it is, or why you feel this way?  Your feelings may be in anticipation of the powerful New Moon in Aires that arrives on March 30th at 11:45 a.m. PDT.   Aries the Ram is the first sign of spring as well as the first sign of the Zodiac year. This makes our New Moon on the 30th very important for a couple of reasons.  First, all New Moons offer us a clean emotional slate.  At the start of the new lunar cycle we can make changes to our mindset, as well as to our emotional relationships with ourselves and others.

Secondly, and most important, New Moon in the fiery action sign of Aries is a harbinger for April’s fantastic astrological power structure.  Consider the 30th to be our staging area, a chance sweep away romantic ideals and emotional patterns that no longer serve us. How we handle this opportunity determines how successfully we’ll manage the rest of the springtime power rush that starts in April.

Aires is a strong, vibrant cardinal sign (first sign of a given season) that carries direct, masculine (or yang energy).  As you use tarot readings for your guidance during the days ahead pay particular attention to cards that call you to act on a situation, or those that caution you against acting in haste.  It is important to use this New Moon to clear your personal debris field.  We have a Cardinal Grand Cross (four planets squaring each other) going exact on April 20th and New Moon in Aires is the fuse to the particular powder keg.  Don’t forget that Mars, one of the components of that Grand Cross rules Aires.  We want to be ready for this one, folks, because ready or not, the fuse has been lit.

I’m fond of using surfing metaphors for powerful energy

patterns.  This New Moon it is important to get in front of the energy flow by taking direct and responsible action.  Let that power rise up underneath you and can ride it. For months we’ve been cautioned to release old patterns and make bold changes by drawing on the transformative energy of Saturn in Scorpio and the Uranus/Pluto square in preparation of April’s Cardinal Grand Cross.  It’s crunch time and if you choose not to act the waves this spring will sweep over you and takes you where they decide, or worse yet, completely over-power you. Remember though, that it’s your choice.  You know where change is required in your own life if you simply take the time to stop and listen to your inner guides and take action.

Action is key and is the one requirement Aires has for us.  Meditate, ground your energy flow and release the things that burden your mind and spirit.  This New Moon can set the tempo for your success during the next few weeks.  Seize that energy.

Astrology Trends For February 2014, “Testing the Waters – Reflecting on the Spiritual As Well As The Mystical”

Several astrologers on the web state that the big influence for
#12, The Hanged Man is Neptune's
tarot association. This depiction by
Stephanie Pui-Mun Law from
"Shadowscapes"© tarot
February is Mercury’s retrograde in Pisces on February 6th and the planet’s digression back to the sign Aquarius on February 12th.  This first Mercury Retrograde (hereafter MR) of 2014 is the only one of the year that occurs in a sign other than a water sign.  Aquarius, although its full title is Aquarius the Water Bearer, is an air sign (tarot’s suit of swords).  Mercury in Aquarius is a clever mind concerned with analyzing people and their motives.  Pisces loves the mysterious and the intuitive. There’s no denying MR in Pisces/Aquarius promises to give us the chance to do some deep, philosophical and spiritual reflection.  Sure, there will be the regular MR quirks, but just remember to use your ‘r’ words: Review, re-structure, redesign, rededicate. (See blog: “Mercury Retrograde, Tarot and You”

On February 14th we have a Full Moon in Leo.  Here’s a Full Moon that celebrates our confident self and I’ll have more next week on working effectively with this energy during MR. On the 18th the Sun moves to Pisces which will be significant on several fronts.  Neptune (#12, The Hanged Man) and Jupiter (#10, The Wheel) co-rule the sign Pisces (#18, The Moon), a highly intuitive water sign filled with compassionate and creative energy.  It is the sign of dreamers.  On February 23rd the Sun in Pisces is conjunct (same place, same time) with Neptune in Pisces.  That’s a strong dose of highly evolved mystical energy – great for meditation and pondering deep mysteries.  Use a little caution however, because while Neptune in Pisces is the place of dreamers and profound creativity, it is also the place of illusion.  It becomes easy to get lost among dreams of what might become in favor of developing more realistic plans.

On February 26th Jupiter squares Uranus and forms a loosey

goosey T-Square (a hangover from that ever present Cardinal Grand Cross) with Uranus square Pluto.  Expect a bit of a head rush here. The winds of change will provide a fresh perspective along with a positive change in fortune.  Make a blueprint to utilize the opportunity presented, but remember to take precautions in accordance with Mercury’s scrambled communications during retrograde.

Venus, who’s recently turned direct, remains in Capricorn this month where she guides us towards committed, steadfast love.  Venus is never fickle or flighty in Capricorn.  However, she reminds us to be practical rather than fanciful in choosing a partner.  Love is grand, but quickly becomes strained under the weight of too many obstacles.  Enduring love requires depth and strength of character more than it requires romantic ideals.  We learned what to value in others during Venus Retrograde. Now is the time to put our findings to work for us.

This month holds lots of promise if we go into it with a proactive attitude.  Granted, there’s a great deal of emotional, or water sign energy (tarot’s suit of cups), but Mercury Retrograde offers us a two-edged sword this month.  Certainly, there’s the potential for communications, travel and business efforts to go awry, but the other edge of the sword is just as sharp.  That second edge provides us an opportunity to test the ‘waters’ this month – to gain insight during this reflective period and to redesign our lives so we build something we value.

January 30, 2014, New Moon in Aquarius - Merging Creativity and Individualism

#17, The Star - Ciro Marchetti's
concept that represents the
magical individualism of our New Moon in Aquarius
from "Legacy of the Divine Tarot"©
On January 30th, at 1:39 P.M., PST, we have our second New Moon of the month occurring in 10 degrees, 55 minutes of Aquarius, Water Bearer.  The other super cool thing about this New Moon is that it’s also a Super Moon.  You may recall that Super Moon is a somewhat freshly coined term referring to a moon that presents at 90% perigee (the lunar position closest to us).  Five Moons in 2014 carry the designation of Super Moon.  January’s New Moon in Capricorn was the first, and the second largest, January 30th’s will be the three largest.  The other epic perigee months this year are July, August and September.

The lunar influences are much stronger when the Moon is at perigee. Tides react, but so does the human body because, as adults, we are composed of between fifty-five and sixty-five percent water.  You’ll definitely feel the pull from this New Moon.  Just be careful if it tells you to swim up stream to spawn.  Cut yourself a little extra slack on the 28th and 29th.  This is time for the Dark of the Moon and if we have a Super New Moon, it only stands to reason that we can experience a Super Dark of the Moon that leaves us feeling unsettled, or carrying some free floating anxiety.  These feelings are a normal part of the New Moon reboot process. Honor them with your favorite flavor of Ben and Jerry’s® ice cream and a movie night.

Do you feel as if the month of January has already been three month’s long?
That’s Cardinal Grand Cross energy for you.  Are you tired yet?  If so, you’re not alone. If not, just wait until our New Moon in Aquarius gets under way.  New moons set a new emotional tempo for the coming lunar cycle.  They are also a time to take stock and change it up if anything needs changing up.  New Moon in Aquarius celebrates the individual in all of us and January’s second New Moon joins with this month’s cardinal energy to tell us that as individuals, we get to make a few of our own rules along the way.  Think James T. Kirk, reprograming the computer for the Kobayashi Maru.

The 30th is a great time to work on ending your dependency
The High Priestess, tarot card for the Moon

"Dreaming Way Tarot"©
on other people’s good opinion of you, their advice, or their control over you.  This New Moon is about detaching from people and situations that trap us. Aquarius demands extra freedom and a respite from strong emotion during this New Moon, so be respectful of boundaries, yours and other people’s.  Our rewards for successfully harnessing the super energy of the 30th will be new-found idealism, enhanced intuition and creativity.  On the darker side, if you ignore Aquarius’ positive message, you’re apt to become dogmatic in your thinking, touchy and more blunt than normal, particularly if you have Moon in Aquarius in your birth chart.

This New Moon is an excellent time is reset your goals and make adjustments to them.  Remember that Venus goes direct on the 31st and Mercury turns retrograde February 6th.  Have a great New Moon!

Full Wolf Moon in Cancer, January 15, 2014 – “Welcome Home”

#7, tarot's The Chariot, helps you rise

from "Wizard's Tarot"© by John J. Blumen and
Corrine Kenner
This January is the month of cardinal energy (See blog: "Astrological Trends For January 2014" ).  On January 15th at 8:52 p.m., PST, we welcome the Full Wolf Moon at 25 degrees and 58 minutes of Cancer (yet another cardinal sign). Cardinal energy acts as on instigator. It’s restless and come Full Moon time, perhaps a little edgy. Properly channeled, this energy will not only motivate you, but once you take action towards your goals, it will lift you up and over the obstacles in your path.  Aptly, tarot's card for the sign of Cancer the Crab is #7, The Chariot – reaching your goals, focusing your intent and knowing who you are.

The Moon is high-functioning is Cancer, its home sign.  Home, hearth and foundations are what Cancer is all about.  Full Moons are about emotions and culmination. Our Full Wolf Moon in Cancer asks us to consider the nurturing strength of our families and close friends.  Use their support as a foundation for refining the goals you’ve set for yourself this year. Are your family and friends unsupportive of you?  Get new ones.  Seriously.  Remember Venus is retrograde in Capricorn until the end of the month.  This is the perfect time to review your relationships and determine what their true value is for you. Are you paying for 24 karat gold and simply receiving gold-plate in return, or are you recklessly casting true diamonds away as if they were cubic zirconium?  You get the idea.  Full Moon in Cancer and Venus in Retrograde want you emotionally satisfied so you can put all that great cardinal energy to work for you this year.

Take time on the 15th and 16th to nurture yourself.  Just as

Lady Moon reflects the Sun’s light, allow yourself time in the comfort and security of your own home to reflect on where you’re headed this month.  Ground yourself and get a sense of where you belong.  You have the entire world to choose from remember.  As you use Venus’ energy to help you review the events and people of your life, store away those special golden nugget memories so that you can pull them out to help light your way this year when the path you travel isn’t as well lit as it is right now.

On the plus side, warm-hearted Cancer Full Moons are imaginative, intuitive and creative.  They work well with Mercury in Aquarius (See Blog: "Mercury Moves to Aquarius" to express our thoughts and ideas. Full Moon in Cancer is a writer’s moon if every there was one. On the downside, and, yes, there is definitely one of those, Full Moon is Cancer can leave us feeling a little raw and exposed.  Cracked crab can feel vulnerable, moody and a little touchy.

Astrology Trends for January 2014 – “A Month for Innovation and Relationship Building”

A typical example of a Grand Cross configuration.
This month's Grand Cross is in
the cardinal modality, however.
We kicked off the year with a glorious New Moon in Capricorn on the 1st.  If you haven’t started your list of goals for 2014, get started now. Capricorn is a cardinal sign.  Cardinal signs are all Zodiac signs that come at the beginning of each season.  Capricorn (winter), Aries (spring), Cancer (summer) and Libra, (fall). Pay attention to the names of these cardinal signs because they will be popping up for the next several months to come. Cardinal signs carry traits such as independence, originality and  seeking the new. These are the signs for fresh starts and the astrological patterns for January 2014 are inundated with cardinal signs.

Capricorn's tarot association is
#15, The Devil – Enmeshment and
enslavement to the material. Check your
priorities From "Legacy of the Divine Tarot"©
by Ciro Marchetti
January’s tempo is set by a Cardinal Grand Cross composed of four planets at ninety degrees to one another, forming four astrological squares and two oppositions.  Whew! Heady stuff. Grand Crosses can carry very challenging energy – particularly in the cardinal modality. On January 11th Mercury bows out of Capricorn, but that still leaves us with Uranus in Aries (about the self), Mars in Libra (about relationships), Jupiter in Cancer (about home), Pluto in Capricorn (about the workplace) and Venus in Capricorn (more workplace, but with an emphasis on professional relationships). These planets share a central theme (I’m big on themes this year) of cardinal energy. Get used to the components of this Cardinal Grand Cross (hereafter known as CGC) because they will be recreating this formation off and on for the next several months.

Those of us who’ve decided to change things up this year will be assisted by all of this CGC energy as long as we pay attention and take positive action. Action is the keyword here.  Get off the couch and turn off your electronic pacifiers. Cardinal energy hates to stand still.  It must be put to work. Create, strive, tap into your potential and make significant changes to your life. Stagnant cardinal energy causes your life to run amok and can give you feelings of anxiety, even depression.

The Empress is tarot's card for Venus, a highly
influential planet this month. From
"Steampunk Tarot"© by Aly Fell
and Barbara Moore
Venus is in retrograde until January 30th.  During this time we have the opportunity to review all of our relationships – not just the personal ones.  Venus Retrograde asks us to review our values, our business relationships and our finances as well.  Expect to see some underlying issues surface in our personal relationships. Old amours may return in person, or via the emotional baggage they left stored at your place.  Focus on the lesson in the Two of Cups.  What, or who, are you bringing to the relationship and what are you looking for from your partner?  Initially, each person only brings to a relationship what is stored in their cup.  Therefore, its important during this period to ask yourself if the contents of your partner’s cup is satisfying to you and if some of the items in your cup need to be left behind. Work to discover how both of you can add, or subtract from your own cups. Look for a great opportunity for communication when Venus is conjunct Mercury on January 7th.

Also, Mars’ warrior energy comes off more dashing and debonair under Libra’s influence.  Ruled by the planet Venus, the sign, Libra is where we house our primary relationships and our partnerships. See how all this folds together this month? Mars pulls balancing energy from Libra and while it makes us more fair-minded, we may also bend over backwards to accommodate our partner and then resent them for it.  Be sure to balance the scale fifty-fifty.

Several tarot cards symbolize our relationships with money

decisions about finances, but also to

and the material.  Probably the most significant during Venus’ retrograde in January will be major arcana’s #15 The Devil, Capricorn’s tarot card (enmeshment, enslavement to the material and conflict between higher goals and baser desires) and the Six of Pentacles ( judgments about money, your relationship with money).  Focus on these cards and what they symbolize in your life when it comes to reviewing issues with money, finance and the material.

Also this month we have a Full Moon in Cancer on January 15th, Sun in Aquarius on January 21st. and another New Moon in Aquarius on January 30th.  A twofer this month.
I’ll have more on these and other transits later.  In the meantime, don’t forget to meditate, goal-set and use this powerhouse of energy from the CGC to make the changes you want to see in your life.
