Venus, the planet of self-esteem and relationships, breezed into the air sign, Gemini this morning at 5:33 a.m. PDT.  Venus in Gemini requires little of us other than adding variety, as well as spontaneity to our daily routines.  This is a transit that keeps matters light, romantically speaking.  Gemini in a sign of the mind and in order for a flirtation to achieve true romance status, our intellect must be engaged along with our heart strings.

We become easily bored during this transit. The goddess of love wants us to experience a multitude of interests during her stay in Gemini – creative endeavors, travel or cultural forays – anything that happens to capture us for the moment.  Check out the newest exhibits at the art museum, or attend a lecture that stimulates your mind and adds depth to your conversations.  This transits wants us to test our intellectual sparkage with the people who snag our romantic interest.  However, remember to keep your affection connections light during this time (transit ends July 17th).  Venus in Gemini has no use for heavy duty commitments, or torch songs.  For all the ‘smarts’ factor, this energy is fun and flirty.

Mercury in Gemini, May 7th to May 28th – “Sparkle and Shine Without Burden”

Mercury in Gemini is a mind that glitters but has no true depth.  Under the influence of the cosmic twins our mental acuity is quick, our thought process hard to define and our focus, hard to hold.  We flit from interest to interest, stopping to nibble at the choicest bits of knowledge, but leaving the richest meat of the information for anyone else who cares to linger and gain deeper understanding of the subject.  Is Mercury in Gemini a shallow mindset?  Not really.  It simply doesn’t have time, or inclination to go the distance to gain expertise on any one subject.  The enemy for all of us during the next three weeks (much more so if you have Mercury in Gemini prominently in your birth chart) is lack of focus.

During the last couple of months we’ve had a lot of deep stuff to ponder and a cosmos that wanted us to dive in and search out even in smallest bits of meaning and knowledge.  Frankly, diving a little less deeply and avoiding burning insights has it’s appeal after April’s somewhat harsh spotlight.  Mercury in Gemini is the planetary transit of party banter.  You will be able to speak well and entertain on a variety of subjects that have snagged your attention.  Your mind will be quick and agile, but its sparkle and shine won’t signify expertise.  However, you will be wiz-bang at Trivial Pursuit®.

lighten our attitude and to explore different facets of our mind, our likes and dislikes.  Many new and interesting things will snag our attention right now, but we don’t have to be victims of lack of focus if we don’t want to be.  Watch out for distractions, people, as well as information.  Stay organized to help you remain focused.  Schedule specific times to play (either mentally, or socially) that don’t conflict with tasks that require your undivided attention.  Use meditation and ground yourself before undertaking weighty matters.

On the whole, take the next three weeks to explore the world around you.  As a sales trainer once told me, “Get into curiosity.”   Indulge that part of you that asks, why.  Find out and in doing so, learn more about what truly interests you.  Rest easy while you can, because Mercury enters Cancer on May 29th and then we’re all mentally back online.

#7, Major Arcana's The Chariot - Life as a Velvet Steamroller

 In tarot suits, sevens portray an aspect of victory.  In The Major Arcana, #7, The Chariot represents triumph over adversity.  The Chariot may conjure up images from “Ben Hur,” or “Gladiator” for you.  Roman charioteers charge around the arena jockeying for position as the crowd cheers them on.  Our charioteer in #7, however, doesn’t challenge another racer.  He challenges himself to win by using the strength of his own will.   

In the traditional RWCS depiction, the charioteer holds a scepter - a symbol of his right to rule his domain.  As in #1, The Magician, the scepter acts as a medium between earth and spirit.  The charioteer doesn’t raise the scepter above his head as the Magician does.  He’s content to establish his dominance here on the earth.  Don’t he mislead, however. The figure in The Chariot is perfectly capable of calling down fire from Heaven. His crown signifies Apollo, the Roman God of the Sun, who drove his fiery chariot across the sky, creating the day.

In his writings, the philosopher, Plato, described the human mind as a chariot drawn by two horses, one black, one white.  Subconscious and Conscious thought. What we see in #7 is not the use of brute strength to defeat adversity, rather it is the pairing of intuition and reason that overcomes the obstacles.  Instead of using horses, as Plato does, the RWCS deck goes one step further, using sphinxes, one black, one white, to power tarot’s chariot.  Cosmic mystery is introduced, offering the mind a chance to expand past ordinary perception.  Our charioteer doesn’t need reins to guide his vehicle.  He surrenders to the mystery and guides the outcome of his battle through his faith in himself.

against the wall.  When The Chariot appears, he reminds us that victory is close by if not already here.  His message is to rise above your self-imposed limitations, or the people who would make you sink to their level.  When all is well in your world, however, The Chariot can appear as a warning that you are dominating someone or something.  You may be investing your ego when you should be employing common sense.
